Worthy Grand Knight,
I am writing to advise you of a new program of the New York State Council. It is a program of vital importance to the future of our Catholic schools.
You know the importance that a Catholic education provides for our children. Students in Catholic Schools across our state meet and exceed the state standards both in reading and math at higher percentage that their public school counterparts. Recent studies indicate that 99% of all Catholic secondary schools students graduate and 97% continue their education past high school. Catholic Schools strive to develop their students physically, emotionally, academically and of course spiritually.
As we continue into the 21st century many of our Catholic Schools in New York face the challenge of remaining open and continuing to educate our young people.
Our State Deputy is very concerned about this and has established the Catholic SchoolsSupport Program(CSSP). The goal of the program is for each council to “adopt” a Catholic school.
The state Council is asking that the councils sponsor fundraisers where the funds raised will go directly to the “adopted” school. The State Council is aware that many councils are already doing this and we ask that you continue. To the councils who are not we ask that you get “involved” to the best of your councils ability.
Councils who are not in a position to participate there is another way to join in the CCSP. We are asking the councils to organize a committee of volunteers, who will work with the principal in determining what volunteers are needed.
The councils and Grand Knights who participate in the CSSP will be specially recognized by State Council at the convention.
It is the intention of the State Council to establish a matching fund policy for both the funds from fundraisers as well a calculated amount based on the total hours of service These funds will come for the profits generated by our C&B program.
Enclosed please find a form in which to report your activities in the CSSP.
Worthy Grand Knight, please feel free to call me in you have any suggestions or concerns about the program.
I thank our State Deputy, Sal for entrusting this new program to me and we thank you for your anticipated support.
Please remember that “ we as knights have nothing less than a moral obligation to keep our Catholic Schools Strong and Vibrant”
Fraternally
