State Deputy's Message

October 2014

Dear N.Y.S. K of C Family:

Can you believe we are into our second year already? Where does the time go? It flies especially when you are busy doing the work of our great Order. When you are doing what you love, you don't have a chance to realize time is passing so quickly.

Our Organizational Meeting was a great success this year at the Villa Roma! I am positive the time spent together was enjoyed by all. We accomplished much together and recognized many of our Councils and Brother Knights for their great work. Congratulations to our State Officers and District Deputies who were installed! We wish you all the best!

The theme of this year's 132nd Supreme Convention was "You Will All Be Brothers: Our Vocation to Fraternity." Our charitable works are so effective because we have such a strong fraternal base which strongly supports our efforts. In his report, our Worthy Supreme Knight Carl Anderson shared our accomplishments over the last year and continued to stress our Order's commitment to defending religious freedom promoting the dignity of human life. He also announced our partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation and then, much to our surprise, he introduced Gary Sinise, the actor who played Lt. Dan Taylor in the movie Forrest Gump. As special guest, he thanked the Knights of Columbus for its support of his foundation and for the wounded military personnel. Earlier in the day, it was shared that our great Order provided $200,000 to the Gary Sinise Foundation to help build a computer-equipped "smart" home for U.S. Army Cpl. Kyle Hockenberry. Hockenberry lost both legs and his left arm in an improvised explosive device attack in Afghanistan.

I would like to express our thanks to the New York Delegation for their dedication to our Order. It was a pleasure to spend time with you and your wives as you did the work of our Order.

The state officers and I have been spending time with many of the local councils during their installations and we are truly honored for the invites. It is wonderful to see so many great men working together. We wish them much success in this Columbian year and remind them we are here if they need us.

Our C&B is in full force and we are anxious to see better numbers than before! All monies raised from the C&B go towards charity - no exceptions.

Our future is determined by our membership and our growth. I ask you all to think about why you became a Knight and allow another Catholic man in your parish to have those great experiences you have. We must continue to grow to allow "Our Legacy to Live".

Claudia and I know that we could never do this work without the support of our great staff. We extend our sincerest thanks to all for always knowing our next move and making what you do look so easy when we know it is not.

We also extend our thanks to the state officers and their wives for a productive year and know that we will continue to make the right decisions for this great state of New York!

We wish you all a happy fall as you enjoy apple cider, and the fall activities of pumpkin and apple picking with your family and friends.
